Welcome to Cedar Stem Cell Institute
The Cedar Stem Cell institute (CSCI) in Columbus, Ohio was established in 2015 by neurosurgeon Dr. Joseph A. Shehadi, MD, FAANS, FRCSC. The CSCI was created as a first-class institute for treating patients with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders using adult stem cell injections and regenerative medical technology. Cedar Stem Cell Institute was named after the world-famous Cedars of Lebanon which for centuries have been symbolic of longevity and prosperity. We believe that stem cells have a potentially transformational effect on the practice of medicine and aspire to be at the forefront regarding the treatment, research and education of this technology.
Our institute only using adult stem cells—never embryonic—for our stem cell injections and stem cell therapy. We are comprehensive, utilizing stem cells from all of the major tissue sources including bone marrow aspirates and maternal placenta. Furthermore, we harness and utilize the healing powers of growth hormone and supportive proteins found in one's own platelet-rich plasma (PRP). We are set up to provide these healing agents intravenously (IV), or directly into the spinal fluid (intrathecal) or into painful joints or spinal disc spaces through stem cell injections. We also utilize novel protocols which involve various combinations of these treatment modalities. We custom tailor the desired treatment to the individual patient.
The Cedar Stem Cell Institute team consists of several accomplished and compassionate surgeon physicians and PhD researchers who are committed to exceeding your expectations.

Stem Cell Therapy Applications
Cedar Stem Cell Intitute specializes in disorders of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.
Stem cells have broad indication for patients with a whole host of neurological conditions including spinal cord injury, stroke, Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis and dementia.
Several orthopedic conditions can be treated with stem cell therapy including bone marrow aspirates to facilitate bone fusion and treatment of long bone fractures. PRP or fat stems can be used to treat sports injuries such as AC separation and rotator cuff tears.
Stem cell therapy and regenerative medicine treatments have broad indications for patients with a whole spectrum of inflammatory conditions.
Depending on the type of diabetes, reduced insulin production by cells in the pancreas can contribute to higher blood sugar levels. Stem cells that can differentiate into insulin-producing cells may help to alleviate this problem.
I have had two lumbar spine surgeries by Dr. Shehadi. Both of which took me from not being able to stand at all to fully functional. He keeps you in a positive frame of mind through his upbeat persona. His staff is equally amazing right down to remembering my wife's name. We have known and worked with this team for four years now.
On a recent back issue I was able to talk to the VA and they sent me to him as a choice care doctor. I feel comfortable with no other Surgeon touching my spine.
Dr. Shehadi helped me in a time of necessity beyond what any other doctor I know would do for a non-established patient. After spending 5 days in Riverside Hospital, they failed to provide any certified doctor to come see me. Always promising, "the next day he (the doctor/surgeon) will be in". This carried on for five days, until I was so fed up, I checked out. I went straight from Riverside to my pain management doctor who placed a call to Dr. Shehadi. Dr. Shehadi agreed to see me that same afternoon...and on his day off!
I will be forever indebted to Dr. Shehadi and what he has done for me. He performed a difficult multi-level fusion surgery and I have almost fully recovered. Dr. Shehadi is one of just a couple of doctors I have put at the top of my doctor list, and I've seen a lot of doctors in Columbus, OH. So if you want someone who knows what they are doing, I recommend you see him for any surgical needs you may have.
